The School

An Introduction:

The Boston Art School for Chinese Music was established in 2000 by the world renowned dulcimer player Ping Li.

Ping Li was the principle dulcimer player of the China Central National Orchestra of Traditional Music of Beijing. In the past thirty years, she has performed in more than twenty countries around the world and has received several awards in various international and national competitions.

Since the establishment of the music school, Ping Li has over 100 students learning dulcimer, zheng and Chinese percussion. With high standard of pedagogy, she teaches every student with passion, impartiality and emphasis on correct and exact techniques.

The Boston Art School principal objectives are:

To develop every student’s potential to the highest level
To use music for expression of one’s emotion

Each year, the school holds annual recital and her students have also performed in various social events such as the August moon festival, Chinese New Year celebration at Boston Latin School, churches and the International Cultural Festival in Faneuil Hall, and the First Night Festival in the Mary Baker Eddy Library.

In 2002, Ping Li led some of her students for a culture exchange mission to china. They visited various music colleges and obtained instructions from two well known music professions in Beijing. The students were encouraged to attend the International Dulcimer conference.
